Air mesh - also called sandwich, spacer or 3D mesh - is two knitted polyester faces held apart by monofilament pile. The result is a springy, breathable pad that pulls the bag away from the wearer's back and lets air move.

Coatings and finishes for air mesh
The back-coating or finish decides water resistance, cold-weather behaviour and, often, whether the bag passes EU retail requirements. Cost is relative to the uncoated base fabric.
