Linen is spun from flax, a low-water, low-input crop, and it shows: a slubby, textured surface that reads natural and premium at once. Cotton-linen blends keep the look while adding softness and lowering cost.

Where linen wins - and where it does not
Strengths
- Premium natural texture canvas cannot match
- Low-impact fibre story (flax needs little water or pesticide)
- Breathable; does not hold odour
- Takes foil, embroidery and screen print beautifully
- Blends bring cost close to canvas
Watch out
- Creases and wrinkles - part of the look, but not for structured bags without backing
- Limited colour depth on pure linen; blends dye better
- Frays at cut edges - bind or overlock all seams
- Pure linen 2-2.5x the cost of canvas
Coatings and finishes for linen
The back-coating or finish decides water resistance, cold-weather behaviour and, often, whether the bag passes EU retail requirements. Cost is relative to the uncoated base fabric.
